Learn about admissions eligibility, hours, holidays, stipends, and benefits for each internship below. Initial placement data will be available after our first year of hosting doctoral interns.

Admissions Eligibility

  • US Citizenship Required? No

  • If not a US Citizen, Authorization to work or engage in practicum training (CPT or OPT) in USA is Required? Yes

  • Canadian Citizenship required? No

  • If not a Canadian Citizen, Authorization to work or engage in practicum training (CPT or OPT) in Canada is Required? No

  • Master’s Degree required? No

  • Comprehensive Exams Passed: Yes, by application deadline

  • Dissertation Proposal Approved: Yes

  • Dissertation Defended? No

  • Minimum Number of APPI Intervention hours: 350; at least 2 practicum semesters of providing individual therapy

  • Minimum Number of APPI Assessment Hours: None required but some may be count toward the minimum 350

  • Minimum Number of Years of Graduate Training Required? 3

Support

The Chatham University -Independence Health System Consortium hosts two interns. One intern is primarily with the Chatham University Counseling Center and one intern is primarily with the Independence Health, in their Family Medical Residency Program. There are some opportunities to engage in cross-site training.

Hours

The internship year starts on July 1, 2024 and ends on June 30, 2025. The work hours for the interns are as follows:

  • Chatham: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

  • Independence: 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

  • On Fridays, both interns will meet from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m for the seminar and supervision series.

Note: some activities outside of the typical hours may occur (e.g., professional development, outreach after hours, notes after hours, articles/text relevant to client care, etc.).

Holidays/Time Off

Interns receive 10 holidays off and 10 PTO (paid time off) days.

Interns are also entitled to two professional development days, which can be used for conferences, dissertation defense, job interviews, or other professional activities. 

Note: sick/vacation/personal/holidays do not count toward the 2000 requirement.

Stipend & Benefits

Each intern receives a salary of $30,000 and benefits, detailed below.

Both interns have the option to enroll in health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, disability/life insurance, and flexible spending accounts for healthcare or child care.

Placement Data

2024-2025 will be our first year of hosting doctoral interns in psychology; therefore, we do not have any placement data to present at this point.
